Ona Judge Signature Candle

Sale price$24.00

Ona Judge was born enslaved at Mount Vernon around 1773 and served as Martha Washington's personal maid. On May 21, 1796, while the Washingtons sat down to dinner in Philadelphia, she walked out and never came back, choosing freedom over being handed off as a wedding gift to Martha's granddaughter. George Washington spent years trying to have her returned. He never succeeded. Ona Judge lived free in New Hampshire until her death in 1848.
