Three people who carried light through the founding era and were long left out of the telling of it. Ona Judge, who walked out of the Washingtons' house in 1796 and lived the rest of her life free. James Armistead Lafayette, who spied on Cornwallis and helped end the war at Yorktown, then had to petition the Virginia legislature for his own freedom. Phillis Wheatley, the first Black woman published as a poet in America.

Each candle is hand-poured in small batches and ships with a printed story card about the life behind the scent.
