Hercules Posey Signature Candle

Sale price$24.00

Hercules Posey commanded the kitchen at Mount Vernon and later cooked in the President’s House in Philadelphia, celebrated in his own lifetime as one of the finest chefs in America. Every dish came off a wood fire he tended himself.

On February 22, 1797 — Washington’s birthday, with the whole household occupied — he self-emancipated. Washington wrote letters trying to find him for two years and died in 1799 having never found him.

This candle is that fire. Toasted oak and settling embers, soft smoke, and a sweetness that lingers the way woodsmoke stays in a room long after the coals have gone grey. A trace of eucalyptus and clean air keeps it from ever turning heavy.

Our 8 oz candle fills your space with the warmth of a kitchen hearth at the end of a long day. Light it when you want the comfort of a fire without the flame.

He kept the fire. Then he kept himself.

Fragrance Notes: Eucalyptus, ozone, marshmallow, sugar, patchouli, embers, smoke, oak
